Kounsarnag trek starts from Aharbal, a famous tourist attraction in Kulgam district of jammu and Kashmir, popularly known for the Aharbal waterfall, and ends back at the Aharbal. The trek follows the trail, on the edges of the inflowing river Vishu. The Vishu river originates from the Kounsarnag lake, and is the primary source of Aharbal waterfall. The Kounsarnag Trek can be summited in six days. There are five main campsites in Kounsarnag trek viz, The first campsite is kungwattan, a pretty-lush valley, accompanied by the inflowing river Vishu and meadows of flowers and pine forests. The second campsite in kounsarnag trek is Mahinag, it is also a beautiful valley located at an elevation of 3000m above the sea level. The special thing about the Mahinag is, the never-melting glacier which is frozen from the centuries. A perfect campsite for the overnight stay and a pretty-picturesque spot. The third and the destination campsite in the Kounsarnag trek, is the Kounsarnag Lake itself. Where we camp for the night in front of the mesmerizing Kounsarnag lake, enjoying the beautiful view of it all the time.The next day, we start descending back, and the fourth campsite will be Mahinag also, spending night over there, the next day we leave for the fifth campsite, that will be near the Aharbal falls. It takes seven to eight hours from Mahinag back to Aharbal. So driving back to Srinagar on the same day would not be a great idea. Spending a night near Aharbal falls, the next day we drive back to the Srinagar.
